Our Story

“Jewellery can work as a security, an empowerment and an extension of self in an expressive sense. I just want my jewellery to encourage these feelings in the wearer”

Oblitus began with jeweller Kate Dewdney from Sussex, very close to Brighton. Kate has been making jewellery for over 10 years now and has endeavoured to produce jewellery that she loves to make and to wear. After years of developing her style, she has found home in punk, rock inspired jewellery.

Jewellery can be more than just an accessory, it can make you feel empowered and work as an extension of yourself. It’s such a strong form of self expression and this is something that Kate has always wanted to be able to give through her jewellery.

It is just Kate behind the scenes - behind the website, the making, the dispatching, the social media. She absolutely loves a chat so feel free to get in touch.

Behind ‘Oblitus’

oblitus, oblita, oblitum
Adjective
Forgotten, Disregarded, Neglected

Dementia has a significant presence in Kates life, she chose the name Oblitus for her brand to put a positive spin on ‘forgetting’ - to forget the norm, to forget what it is expected and to thrive in your true self unapologetically.

Forget what is holding you back.

Core Values

Handmade

We really focus on making products by hand. Jewellery can be such a personal and sentimental thing and it is important to us to give these products a story and a journey even before making its way to you. We want our jewellery to last and be durable whilst doing so. As a small business, Kate is the only jeweller here at Oblitus so each product will be handmade by Kate herself.

Inclusivity & Community

Oblitus was created to not only sell empowering jewellery but also with the intention of inviting a diverse, authentic and passionate community of people who enjoy self expression. All of the jewellery here is unisex.

It is so important to us to be inclusive of all different people from all different walks of life and we just want to celebrate your authentic selves!

Environmental Impact

Another core value here at Oblitus is being aware of our impact on the environment and striving to keep it minimal. We use recycled silver wherever possible in the making of our jewellery and our packaging is recyclable. We also offer repairs and a cleaning service for free on Oblitus jewellery to ensure that our jewellery isn’t ‘throw-away’ and can be revived.

Transparency

Honesty is the best policy. We want to be 100% transparent with our customers so you know you can trust us. We will endeavour to be honest about the materials we use, the processes we use, the companies we may use for different things. We also strive to be approachable and kind - but surely this should be everyones core value!

As a small business any advise, constructive criticism or general comments are welcome and encouraged. We are learning and growing every single day.
